A diagnostic trouble code records the system and condition that triggered a fault. It may name a sensor or circuit, but that does not automatically mean the sensor itself has failed.
Several causes can create the same code
A sensor signal can be affected by damaged wiring, poor power or earth, mechanical problems, contamination, a leaking hose or another control unit. Replacing the named component without testing can waste time and money.
Diagnosis uses evidence
A structured process may include a full scan, technical information, live data, circuit tests, mechanical checks and a controlled road test. Intermittent faults sometimes need monitoring until the failure is present.
The objective is to identify the most likely cause and verify it as far as practical before recommending repair.
