Brake systems often give warning before performance becomes unsafe. Squealing may indicate pad wear, while grinding can mean the friction material is exhausted. A shaking steering wheel under braking may relate to rotor variation, although steering or suspension wear can contribute.
Pedal changes matter
A soft, sinking or unusually hard pedal requires prompt assessment. Fluid leaks, air in the system, hydraulic faults or brake-booster problems can affect pedal feel.
Warning lights
A red brake warning may relate to the parking brake, fluid level or hydraulic system. An amber ABS light usually indicates an electronic anti-lock braking fault. The base brakes may still operate, but the system should be diagnosed.
Book a brake inspection if braking performance, noise or pedal feel changes.
